aardvark publications
Aardvark Publications has been in existence since 1984. It is a small
southern African publishing company that specialises in activity books
for young people. The purpose of each activity book is to introduce
principles of ecology in interesting ways that encourage children to
create their own understanding of the world in which they live.
The range of Aardvark books ensure that various environments are used as the focus areas for developing these understandings. At present the books are available in South Africa and in Zimbabwe .

Encounters with Wildlife and Encounters with Sea-Life, humorously
illustrated by Cape Town artist Ian Lusted, are just the answer for
introducing families to general understandings of ecology in a fun way
that will help keep young and old busy for hours.
While Encounters with Wildlife explores the ecology of the Bushveld,
Encounters with Sea-life is a treasure-chest of information about the
ecology of off-shore sea-life, and of life along our sandy beaches and
in our rock-pools. Both books are just the sort of things to take along
on that Bushveld holiday or that holiday by the sea. Great entertainment
at any time, but particularly when its raining or for that afternoon
period when some people enjoy a siesta.
For teachers looking for that little extra something to spark up their
lessons these books are an ideal resource. The books are aimed at
children from reading age through to 12 years.
Both books are endorsed by internationally acclaimed conservationist Dr
Ian Player, who writes :
“To my mind families make up the most important units of society, and a
family that is aware of its environment, and takes action to preserve
it, must be the most treasured of all. Aardvark Publication’s Enviro-Vision
activity books are a step in the right direction in encouraging families
to know more about South Africa’s rich and diverse ecology, and if their
first two books in the series (Encounters with Wildlife and Encounters
with Sealife) are anything to go by, they are bound to play an important
part in getting young and old involved in knowing more about, and taking
action to look after, our precious South African wildlife and the
ecosystems in which they are found.”
